Post & Beam Challenge
Wood Mode Sturbridge beaded inset cabinets in Nordic White were used against white-washed pine walls.

Our design team conquered a few challenges in order to meet this kitchen's need for for space and functionality.

The main challenges included installing cabinets around exposed beams and removing a pantry built around an immovable structural beam. One solution required mounting the upper wall cabinets 6” forward of the exposed beams providing easier access as well as a desirable and more spacious 30" deep counter surface. The countertop selected was fabricated from black soap stone with beautiful white veins and features a grooved drain board.

The original pantry was removed to open the view from the kitchen to the rest of the house and replaced with a more functional island with seating for three and a bookshelf facing the sink. Plenty of room for organized drawers of pots and cooking utensils, food storage containers, and a "secret" compartment were incorporated in this highly functional re-design. A new narrow tall pantry was recessed into the wall opposite the old pantry's location to provide more storage for food staples and connect the kitchen to the main living space.
